John A. Phillips

93, of Red Creek, NY passed away peacefully October 1, 2016 at Auburn Nursing Home.
He was born April 12, 1923 in Auburn, NY. Growing up he and his brothers were taught carpentry from their father and built his own one story dwelling, one room at a time on Shearin Street to accommodate his bride, Grace E. Conkright  and his growing family.

He had a passion for collecting as a young child into adulthood. He then added a dwelling on his property called 'Hidden Treasures'. From there he had a shop in Port Byron for a time and then sold his wears at the Regional Market in Syracuse.

He was a World War II veteran who was very proud to have served his country.

He leaves behind, his daughter, Laura Harkins (Russell), his grandchildren, Kimberly Whiffen, Jessica (Harkins) Wrench (Sean) and Geoffrey Harkins (Caiti). Six great-grandchildren, Scott, Devon, Wes, Noah, Chase and Olivia Grace. A special friend and confidant, Dan Shepard. Along with several nieces and nephews.

Predeceased were Grace (Betty) Phillips and daughter Christine (Phillips) Whiffen.
Also his siblings, George, Gene, Ronald and Bessie Rooker.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to your local SPCA. John loved animals and took in a number of dogs that were abused or otherwise had no home to go to.

Calling hours will be at Heieck-Pelc Funeral Home,LLC 42 E.Genesee St. Thursday October 6, 2016 from 11 - 1:00, with burial to follow in Soule Cemetery.
