James Ferrara Obituary

James Michael Ferrara, known affectionately as Jimmy to his friends and family, passed away at the age of 79 on March 10, 2024, in Safety Harbor, FL, after a brief illness. Born on April 18, 1944, in Seneca Falls, NY, Jimmy was the youngest of fourteen children born to the late Anillo and Mary (Spagnola) Ferrara.

Jimmy's early years in Seneca Falls were filled with the bustling energy of a large Italian-American family. He was a spirited child, always ready with a joke or a smile, and carried that enthusiasm throughout . Jimmy began what would become a long and dedicated career as a Material Handler at New Process Gear, where he was a proud member of UAW Local 624. He retired after more than three decades of loyal service, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and camaraderie among his colleagues.

In 1971, Jimmy married the love of his life, Mary Jane Martino, and together they shared twenty years of happiness until her untimely passing in 1991. Their union was blessed with a son, Anthony Joseph, who tragically predeceased his father in April of 2022.

Those who knew Jimmy will fondly remember his love for bowling and golf, which he enjoyed at Highlands Country Club. Everyone that knew him will remember that lottery scratch off tickets were his other favorite sport.

Jimmy is survived by granddaughter, Ava Jane, and several nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

Described by those who knew him as funny, spirited, and passionate, Jimmy made an indelible impact on those around him. His stories, often punctuated with laughter, will be retold and cherished, keeping his memory alive.

As we say goodbye to Jimmy, we celebrate a life marked by love, laughter, and his “old school” Italian temper. His influence will continue to be felt by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
