Richard C. "Dick" Silliman, 84, of Auburn, NY, passed away on March 8, 2024, of natural causes in Auburn, NY.
Born on June 5, 1939, in Lyons, to Cecil and Pearl Silliman, Dick lived a life marked by laughter, wisdom, and a remarkable ability to fix or create just about anything he put his mind to. After many dedicated years at Lakeland Visual and a fulfilling career at TRW from which he retired, Dick was known to his colleagues not only for his keen intelligence but also for his wit and humor, which made every workday a bit brighter. His commitment to his work was paralleled only by his dedication to the people he worked with, leaving a legacy of strong relationships and fond memories. Dick's passion for the outdoors was evident to anyone who knew him. A masterful fisherman, he spent countless hours on the water, casting lines and soaking in the tranquility of nature. A family man at heart, Dick's most cherished moments were those spent in the company of his loved ones.
He is survived by his sister, Alice Clark; his son, Stan Silliman and daughter-in-law, Shawn Silliman; his grandsons, Josh and Ben Silliman, who were the apples of his eye; along with several nieces and nephews. Each family gathering was brightened by Dick's presence, his funny stories, and the laughter that seemed to follow him wherever he went. Fondly remembered as funny, intelligent, and incredibly handy, Dick was the go-to person for family and friends whenever something needed fixing. His ability to solve problems with a calm demeanor and a smile was a true testament to his character. Dick's intelligence shone through in his thoughtful conversations, quick wit, and the thoughtful advice he freely dispensed. Those who had the pleasure of knowing him often found themselves in awe of his remarkable blend of practical skills and sharp intellect. Dick Silliman's impact on the world was as profound as it was understated. Through his humor, wisdom, and hands-on approach to life, he made an unforgettable mark on the hearts of those around him. His legacy will continue to live on in the stories that are told and retold, in the quiet moments spent by the water, and in the love he shared so generously. As we bid farewell to a man of many talents and an even greater heart, we take solace in knowing that his was a life well-lived, filled with joy, learning, and love. Dick's memory will forever be a guiding light to his family, a reminder of the laughter and love that life holds. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will remain an indelible part of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
