Alyce Mignon Saucer, 89, died Aug. 6 after a long battle with emphysema. She was born on Feb 7, 1928 in Luverne, Minnesota.  Alyce met her husband, George Saucer, in Luverne and moved to Waterloo, Iowa in 1961.

Although she never had a career, she channeled her creative energies into cooking gourmet meals for her family and baking. She catered events free of charge for the Waterloo Community Theater for several years. She was also a regular at the Waterloo farmers market, where her apple pastries, pecan pies and caramel corn were perennial favorites.

Alyce was a passionate Democrat, having chaired the Democratic Party in Rock County, Minnesota in the 1950's. The daughter of one of the founders of the Minnesota Farmer Labor Party, Alyce was passionate about civil rights.

But her greatest joy was acting. Her lead performances at the Waterloo Community Playhouse in the Lion in Winter, Summer and Smoke and Waiting for Godot were widely lauded. After she was widowed in 2001 and moved to Auburn N.Y. she was co-lead in the two-person play The Gin Game at the age of 76. Her family was never more proud.

Alice's other love were her pets, which were spoiled in every way.

She is predeceased by her husband of 40 years and infant son, Timothy, and her five siblings, James Anderson, Mary Lerza, Christian Anderson, Margaret Campbell, and Alfred Anderson. She is survived by her son, Thomas, of Charles City, Iowa; daughter Elizabeth Burke (Ray Bizzari), of Aurora, NY; daughter Caroline Saucer, of Bethlehem PA; son Mark Saucer (Jessie), of Burke VA, as well as five grandchildren.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Donations can be made in her name to a local SPCA.
