Carol Irene (Lane) McConnell, 64, passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer on Saturday, March 1, 2014 surrounded by her loving family.
Carol was born on January 20, 1950 to Russell and Caroline Lane who each passed away early in Carol’s life. She grew up in Auburn, raised by her hard-working grandmother, Pearl Hamilton, who held a special place in the family until her death. Carol attended Central High School in Auburn.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband of twenty-seven years, William McConnell; her parents and grandmother; her infant daughter, Marie Gabriel; and, a sister, Cheryl Lane. She is survived by her six remaining children and their families: Patty LeBlanc, Kansas City, MO and daughters Katie and Rachel as well as Jessica Griffin, Jacksonville, NC, husband Phil and Carol’s great-granddaughter Dahlia Grace; Brenda Costello, Auburn, husband Mike and children Michael and Sarah; Pam Sanchez, Auburn, husband Jose and children Nicole, Deven, and Jayden O’Hora; Bill, Auburn, significant other Tracy Moore and daughters, Audrey Wilson, Katie Moore, and Ashley Moore; Brian, Auburn; and Shelly McConnell, Auburn, and son Johntae Smith. Survivors also include her sister, Rusty Jorgensen, Auburn, and husband Roger; best friend Connie Sheets, Auburn, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carol devoted her life to her family, silently and unselfishly availing herself to everyone. She was our rock and safe place, her death will leave a void in her family’s lives, however her legacy, testimony, and perseverance will forever remain in the memory of those who knew her well. In place of a service Carol requested her family to gather together, remember her with love and laughter, while treasuring every moment with each other. Memorial contributions may be made in Carol’s memory to Hospice of the Finger Lakes, 1130 Corporate Drive, Auburn, NY 13021. Cremation arrangements will be handled by Heieck-Pelc Funeral Home,LLC Auburn NY. Fond memories and condolences may be left at this website.
