Donald "Donnie" Harris Short, 67 of North Division St Rd, Throop and Limekiln Rd, Inlet, New York passed away Monday, November 23, 2015 surrounded by his family and friends.  He fought a courageous battle with cancer.
Don was the son of the late Harris and Florence Short.  Don is survived by and will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 47 year, June Richards Short.  Their daughter Angela (Thomas) Cochrane and their son Scott Short.  Their grandchildren Garrett and Brady Cochrane and MacKenzie Sage.  He is also survived by sister-in-law’s Jackie (Ron Alfred) Richards-Wood, Jenny (Gary) Drew and brother-in-law Duke (Donna) Richards. And a special friend/brother from another Mother Rick (Joanne) Connors.

Don graduated from Port Byron Central School in 1966, Powelson  Business Institute, and attended New Hampshire School of Commerce.  After school Don was employed by Cayuga County Highway for 45 years.  Don started as a machine equipment operator and retired as General Forman.  Don was honored by Cayuga County for his dedicated service on November 25th, 2014 by proclaiming it Donald "Donnie" Short Day in Cayuga County.

Don loved sports, he played on slow pitch softball teams, bowled, played horseshoes, shot darts and dice, and golfed getting a hole in one on the Cato Golf Course.  His favorite teams were the Yankees, the Redskins and Syracuse University.  The only sport he disliked was fishing.

Don loved to spellbind you with his jokes--once he started you would not know how long they would roll.

Summer time he could be found at their Summer Home, "Snap-A-Cap" in Inlet, New York, driving his corvette while listening to Shania Twain.  He also would share a Captain Morgan or a cold Bud with company around the camp fire.

If in Throop he would be mowing his yard to perfection, or plowing driveways in the winter.

While he was able he traveled to Alaska, the Caribbean, Hawaii, Las Vegas, and corvette caravans to Bowling Green, KY, Carlisle, PA, and Lake George, NY.

Don dearly loved his wife, daughter, son, grandchildren, nieces, great niece, great nephew and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Richard Short.

Calling hours Sunday November 29, 2015  will be 1 pm - 3 pm with service immediately following in the Heieck-Pelc Funeral Home,LLC  42 East Genesee Street, Auburn, NY.
