Joann Sidor Obituary

Joann (Bennett) Sidor, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2025, in Auburn, just one day after celebrating her 72nd birthday, with her devoted husband of 46 years by her side. Born on November 24, 1953, in Seneca Falls, Joann lived a life characterized by devotion to her family and a love for creating warm, meaningful memories.

Joann spent her early professional years working at Internal Medicine, where she was known for her friendly and caring nature. However, her greatest joy and fulfillment came from motherhood. Choosing to stay home to raise her children, Joann immersed herself in their lives, creating traditions and memories that continue to live on. Her presence was a staple at Casey Park Elementary School, where she was always the “homeroom mom” and an active leader in the Parent-Teacher Organization. She enjoyed watching her children grow and she could always be found cheering them on; Eric and Karen in their sports, and Mark with all of his acting and dance performances over the years.

Later, she spent time selling Home Interiors, where she connected with many people. Her daughter, Karen, fondly recalls the times they spent together at shows and the teamwork of hosting parties and sorting out orders. Joann also brought her warmth, friendliness, and laughter to JCPenney at the Fingerlakes Mall, where she worked for several years.

A woman of strong values, Joann carried herself through life’s ups and downs with resilience, kindness, and compassion—qualities she shared generously with others. She faced each challenge with courage and determination, with her loving husband by her side every step of the way.

Joann also found joy in the simple pleasures of life. In their early years together, she was an enthusiastic supporter of her husband Bill’s bowling endeavors, often traveling with him to various states to celebrate his accomplishments. She enjoyed bowling herself as well, participating in weekly leagues for a period of time.

Her interests extended to the kitchen, where she was famous for her delicious Christmas cookies. Generosity came naturally to Joann; she delighted in gifting trays of her homemade cookies to friends, family, and neighbors, spreading cheer and sweetness for many years.

Her three grandchildren—Lyla, Macy, and Callie Serrett—will forever cherish the memories of baking with their grandmother and plan to continue the tradition in her honor.

Joann is survived by her loving husband, Bill Sidor; her children, Eric Sidor, Karen Serrett, and Mark Sidor (Steve Gamba); and her beloved grandchildren, Lyla, Macy, and Callie Serrett. She is also survived by her sisters, Cheryl Bennett, Alberta Bennett, and Dorothy Zmuda, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will feel her absence deeply.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Bennett (1978) and Dorothy Bennett (2019), as well as her brother, Albert Bennett Jr.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, December 5th at 12:00 p.m. at St. Hyacinth’s Church, 63 Pulaski Street, Auburn, with calling hours beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the church.

Joann’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of The Commons, especially the 6th floor team, for the love, compassion, and warmth they showed Joann—and for the kindness with which they greeted Bill each day.
