Josephine Silliman Obituary

Josephine A. Silliman, a cherished sister, mother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in her hometown of Auburn, NY. Born on July 19, 1946, in the same close-knit community, Josephine's life was a testament to her intelligence, friendliness, and creativity, which touched the hearts of everyone she met.

Josephine was a devout Catholic. She graduated from Auburn Central High School and furthered her education at Cayuga Community College, where she earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Computer Science.

For 28 years, Josephine dedicated herself to the City of Auburn as the Registrar, a role in which she served with distinction and unwavering commitment. Her work not only showcased her intelligence but also her ability to connect with people from all walks of life, always greeting them with a warm smile and a helping hand.

Beyond her professional achievements, Josephine found great joy in her personal pursuits. She was an avid reader, an artist who expressed herself through oil painting, and a skilled craftswoman who could often be found knitting or crocheting beautiful pieces.

She is survived by her loving sister and best friend, Helen (Paul) Kotzer, and her nephews Paul M., Steven, and David Kotzer, and nieces Julie (Michael) Liccion and Jennifer (Frank) Wlad, along with numerous great-nieces and nephews. Stanley (Shawn) Silliman, son, and grandsons Christopher, Joshua, and Benjamin Silliman. In addition, she was close to her neighbor, Chris, and had many good friends.

Josephine was predeceased by her father, Julian Piestrak, and mother, Lucy (Piestrak) Tarby.

Josephine also shared an unbreakable bond with her two special canine companions, Daisy and Max. They brought immeasurable comfort and joy to her life, and their loyal presence was a constant source of happiness.

Josephine was actively involved in the Class of 1964 Central High Reunion Committee, where she worked diligently to keep the spirit of camaraderie and friendship alive among her classmates.

Josephine loved visiting different diners with her family and friends. These outings were not just about the food but about the shared experiences and the laughter that accompanied them. She also enjoyed an occasional visit to some of the local casinos!

As we remember Josephine, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with grace. We take comfort in the belief that she has found eternal peace and rest in the loving arms of our Creator.

Rest in peace, dear Josephine. Your memory will forever be a beacon of light and a source of comfort to all.
