LeeRoy Green Obituary

LeeRoy Frederick Green passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on September 28, 2024, in his hometown of Auburn, New York. Born on November 21, 1937, LeeRoy was the son of the late Thompson and Helen (Morse) Green. He was a cherished soul whose life was marked by dedication to his family and a tireless work ethic.

LeeRoy's early years in Auburn laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work and service. For many years, he worked as a service technician for Agway in Auburn, where his skill and dependability left a lasting impact. Colleagues and friends knew him as a handyman. Additionally, LeeRoy served in the New York Army National Guard, assigned to the 1/108th Infantry Battalion on South Street in Auburn, for eight years. He left service at the rank of Sergeant and received the Soldier’s Medal for heroism, awarded for saving fellow soldiers’ lives during training.

LeeRoy loved camping, fishing, and the great outdoors, and he cherished his loyal canine companion, Karleigh, who was with him for thirteen years. Every summer, he would pack up the family and Karleigh to drive to Selkirk Shores for a camping trip. These moments were among his most cherished, providing lifelong memories for his children and grandchildren.

LeeRoy is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Elizabeth (Switzer) Green; their children, Lorraine (Albert) Exton, John (Cindy) Green, Jeffrey (Melissa) Green, and Michele (Jeff) Porten; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his sister, Gloria Sperry; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, LeeRoy is predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Green, and sisters, Dorothy Spencer and Helen Pickard.

Though he has departed this world, the legacy of LeeRoy Frederick Green will continue to live on through the lives he touched. He has left an indelible mark on the hearts of his family and friends, and his memory will be treasured forever. Affectionately called “Poppy” by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was a man of few words, but his love for family was unequivocal, and he would have moved mountains for them all.
