Norbert E. "Edju" Plis

Norbert Edward “Edju” Plis, of Grant Street, Auburn, New York, passed away leaving behind a lifetime of memories, love, hard work, and stories that will remain with his family and friends forever.

Born in Auburn, New York, Norbert was the son of the late Edward and Loretta Plis. Auburn was always home to him, and it was there that he built his life, raised his family, worked hard, formed lifelong friendships, and became a familiar and respected part of the community.

Norbert was predeceased by his beloved grandmother, Mary Sidor; his sisters, Patricia Marginsky and her husband, Alex, and Donna Plis; his brother, Robert Plis and his wife, Barbara; his son-in-law, Steven Netti; and his dear and special friend, Bucky Wilson. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Gloria Plis; his daughter, Rosemarie Netti of Auburn, New York; and his son, Edward Plis Jr. of Auburn, New York. He also leaves behind many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. His family was one of the greatest parts of his life, and the love, lessons, stories, and memories he gave them will continue through the generations.

Norbert proudly served his country in the United States Army, carrying with him throughout his life the strength, determination, and sense of duty that defined his character.

He was a hardworking and gifted tradesman with a lifelong talent for carpentry and mechanical work. Norbert worked for ALCO in Auburn, New York, where he eventually retired as a millwright. He was a man who knew how to build, repair, and create with his own hands, and he took great pride in a job well done. His work ethic was something those around him knew well and something his family will always remember.

Few things, however, brought Norbert the excitement and joy that fast-pitch softball did. He was an avid and fiercely competitive player who took the mound for many teams over the years, most notably the Ukrainian National Club, where he pitched for many seasons. Softball was much more than a game to him. It was a passion, a source of friendship, competition, laughter, and some of the stories that would be told again and again for years to come. Those who watched him play knew his determination, his competitive spirit, and how much he loved being on the field.

Norbert was also an avid outdoorsman who found great enjoyment in the outdoors and the simple pleasures of life. He was happiest doing the things he loved, surrounded by the people who mattered most to him.

Norbert lived a full life marked by service, hard work, family, friendship, competition, and devotion. He was a proud Army veteran, a skilled craftsman, a ballplayer, an outdoorsman, a husband, a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, and a friend.

But to those who loved him, he was so much more than any title could ever describe.

The loss of Norbert leaves an emptiness that cannot truly be put into words. Yet the mark he left behind can be seen in his family, in the lives he touched, in the friendships he made, in the work of his hands, and in the countless memories that will continue to bring both tears and smiles.

Though he may no longer be here to tell another story, take the mound, work on another project, or share another moment with his family, the memories of “Edju” will never leave those who knew and loved him.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of his wife Gloria, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A life well lived. A man deeply loved. A memory that will never fade.
