Ralph E. McDowell

Ralph E. McDowell, 97, of Port Byron, NY passed away Monday July 29, 2024. He was at home, resting peacefully with family & caregivers.

Ralph graduated from Cato high school then spent years as a builder, union carpenter & woodworker. He enjoyed figuring out how things were made & then crafting “surprise” gifts in his basement shop for family & loved ones. He was a member of the Grand Lodge of NY for 65 years.

He was predeceased by his wife June (Horr) McDowell; sons Gary, Lester & Rory McDowell; grandson Matthew McDowell, sisters Eunice (McDowell) Longyear, Mary (McDowell) French & Ruth (McDowell) Leyburn; brothers Donald, Waldo & Wayne McDowell.

He is survived by his daughter Paulette (McDowell) Starita, daughter-in-law Gail (Warter) McDowell, grandchildren Leslie, Jordan (Cody Tanksely) & Rose, & many nieces & nephews.

Ralph & June spent almost 74 years of marriage together & enjoyed taking their family picnicking, camping, exploring parks & appreciating nature. In retirement they continued to enjoy family time (grandkids!), traveling, & birdwatching.
