Richard P. Gilfus, 84 of the Town of Springport died unexpectedly at his residence Wednesday November 20, 2013.
Mr. Gilfus was born in Auburn the son of Richard O. and Anna Pickard Gilfus. Mr. Gilfus lived most of his life in the Town of Springport. He was a retired employee of General Crush Stone of Auburn with over 18 years of service. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed horseshoes, playing guitar and drinking coffee with his neighbors. He was known for his sense of humor and generosity.
Surviving Mr. Gilfus is his wife of 62 years the former Laura Smith. 2 Daughters and their spouses Cindy and Reb Raymond; Cheryl and John Howland all of Auburn. Brother Leroy Gilfus of Livingston, NY and Sister Joyce Jacobs of Coxsackie, NY. 5 Grandchildren and their spouses Richard and Kelly Gilfus of Union Spring, Michael and Amy Gulliver of Auburn, Christopher and Carrie Gilfus of Elbridge, Nicholas Gilfus of Syracuse and Bryan and Tricia Howland of Union Spring. 6 Great – grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Gilfus was predeceased by his son David W. in 2002, grandson John S. Howland in 2007 and sister Gloria Gilfus in 2012.
In accordance with Richard wishes there will be no calling hours.
There will be a celebration of his life at The Apple Station on Cross Roads in Union Springs on Sunday, Nov. 24th from 1pm – 5pm.
The Gilfus family would like to extend their appreciation to the Walter family for their continued support over the many years of friendship.
