Robert Wood Obituary

Robert E. Wood, 88, of Auburn passed away Tuesday April 14, 2020 in the Huntington Living Center with family by his side.

Bob was born in Auburn the son of Harold and Dorothy Ellison Wood.  He was High School graduate of the Auburn Schools. He was a honorable discharge from US Army he served in the Korean War from 1951-1953 In February 1955 Bob  joined the ranks of the New York State Police serving  over 23 years of service retiring in July 1978 as a Zone Sargeant.  After retirement Bob became security supervisor of the RG&E Ginna Nuclear Plant from July 1978 until December of 1993. He loved fishing, playing golf, and being with family and friends. He also enjoyed writing poems, telling jokes and stories. Bob was a member of the original Old Man’s Breakfast Club at the Family Restaurant. He held memberships with the Retired Troopers Association, and the Auburn KWVA.

Mr. Wood is survived by his wife the former Phyllis Vandenbosch Wood, Daughters Colleen Gould (Carl), and Susan Winslow (Terry), son Mark Wood (Debbie). Grandchildren ,Shawn(Cindy)Church, Rick(Karen) Church, Stacey(Mike) Church, Kimberlee Winslow (Matt),  Chelsea Grillo, Adam (Nichole) Winslow, Kelly (Scott) Spahn, Cindy Vancleef, Robert (Chyna) Wood ,Steven Gould, Rachael, Ryan, Riley Wood. 18 Great grandchildren, 1 Great –great grandchild.

Mr. Wood was predeceased by his parents, son Timothy, Grandchildren Rieley and Patrick, Sister Betty Meyers, brothers Ted and Harold (Red) Wood, daughter’s in-law Kathie and Laura.

Services and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
