Ronald M. Chanko, 78, of Aurelius passed away at Albany Medical Center on June 9, 2022 after bravely fighting an extended illness, always with a positive attitude and smile.
He was a graduate of West High School and served in the Air Force from 1966-1970. He was a sales rep with SL Auburn until 1996 and retired from Bombardier Transportation in 2005. Ron was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 207, UNC, and American Legion and a huge fan of the Buffalo Bills and never missed watching a game. He also enjoyed music and was recently taking piano lessons.
Ron is survived by his loving children, daughters: Kristine (Shawn) Wills-Farley of Brooksville, FL, Melissa (Kevin) McConnell of Waxhaw, NC; and his son: Mathew Chanko of Gaithersburg, MD; and grandchildren; Hayden ,Ryan, Madeline and Patrick; his sister Kathleen Hotaling of Duansburg, NY and niece Jennifer and nephew John.
Ron is predeceased by his parents Michael and Anne Chanko and brother Richard Chanko.
Family and friends are invited to call on the family Tuesday June 14, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to Noon in the Heieck Pelc funeral home, LLC 42 E. Genesee St. Auburn, followed by his funeral service at 1 p.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
