Ronald “Ronnie” Mello, 64, of Auburn, NY lost his battle with esophageal cancer on Tuesday, May 17th, 2016. He died at home with his wife Kathryn and daughters by his side.  A Mass of Christian burial will be offered in Holy Family Church on June 16th, 2016 at 3pm. A gathering to celebrate his life will take place at The Ukrainian National Club, following the Mass.
Ronnie will be remembered as a kind and generous man. Born in Acushnet, MA he moved to Central New York in 1976 and has called it home for 40 years. His favorite times were spent with his family, where he took great pride in being a good husband, father, and papa.  Ronnie was an avid sportsman and enjoyed many outdoor activities including; hunting, golf, sport shooting, and riding his motorcycles. He stayed true to his roots, traveling to New England states regularly and routing on the Boston Red Sox, Boston Celtics, and New England Patriots. He was always eager to lend a hand to family and friends alike, volunteering for many years at the Ukrainian National Club where he served as former President and Board Member.  
In May 2014 Ronnie retired from Owens-Illinois, where he was employed as an industrial electrician since the plants opening in 1978. Shortly after retirement he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. For the last two years, he was an advocate for educating others on the signs of this terminal disease.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn Simmons-Mello; his 2 daughters, Rebecca Mello and Elizabeth Mello and their mother Carole Mello; 2 step-daughters, Tabitha Barnell and Kristy May; 3 grandchildren, Keegan Maas, Adriana and Alexandra Barnell; his parents Arnold and Lauretta Mello of Acushnet, MA; his brother Michael Mello of New Bedford, MA; and his sister Diane Mello of Albany, CA.
