Sylvia E. (Covert) Cobb, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2023, in Auburn, N.Y., due to end-stage lung disease. Born on December 2, 1944, in Union Springs, N.Y., Sylvia lived a life marked by love, intelligence, and courage. Sylvia was a graduate of Union Springs Central School, where she showcased her intellectual prowess and set the foundation for the remarkable life that was to follow. Her commitment to her community was evident in her role as a Sunday school teacher for Scipio Baptist Church. She was equally dedicated to her role as a homemaker, always ensuring that her home was a sanctuary of love and warmth for her family. In her free time, Sylvia enjoyed a variety of hobbies. She had an affinity for reading, knitting, and coloring. She loved playing cards, listening to music, and engaging in games that brought her closer to her loved ones. A lover of nature, she had a particular fondness for Zinnias. However, her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family, creating beautiful memories that will be cherished forever.
Sylvia is survived by her devoted husband, Lyle, and their three sons, Kenneth R. (Tanya Case) Cobb, Timothy S. Cobb, and David G. (Sheryl Reney) Cobb. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Kevin (Victoria), Brendan, Stacie Cobb, Kyrah (Sam), Zachariah, Benjamin, and Dylan Cobb. She was a proud great-grandmother to Liam & Wyatt Cobb, Abigail & Olivia Denman, Ja'miah Thomas, and Lily McCall, with two more great-grandchildren on the way. She is also survived by her sister, Dora Guiles, and brother, Robert Covert, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Sylvia joins her predeceased siblings, sisters Eva Potter and Carrie Vhoris, brother Adelbert J. Covert Jr, sister-in-law Betty Covert, and brother-in-law George Potter, in eternal rest. As we remember Sylvia, we are reminded of a quote by Helen Keller, "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart." Sylvia's love and kindness were indeed the most beautiful things about her, and they were deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Sylvia E. (Covert) Cobb was a beacon of love and strength, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who were touched by her life. Her memory will forever be a testament to a life well-lived, marked by love, intelligence, and courage.
