Thaddeus F. Barski

Thaddeus Franklin Barski, 79, of Auburn, passed away peacefully at home on October 28, 2021.

“Teddy”, as he was lovingly known, was born on February 24th, 1942 to Rose Josephine (Smolarz) Kubarek and Thaddeus Joseph Kubarek, a Captain in the United States Army.  After the death of Captain Kubarek during World War II, Rose married Frank Barski who later adopted Teddy and his brother, Daniel.

 Teddy was a lifelong resident of Auburn and loved his community dearly.  He attended elementary and middle school at St. Hyacinth, and high school at Mt. Carmel where he excelled at sports.

 He was drafted into the Army and completed Basic Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, prior to honorably serving his country in the Vietnam War. 

 He married the love of his life, Nancy Jean (Walters) Barski, on September 30, 1972.  He is predeceased by Nancy, who passed away in 2005, as well as by his mother Rose (2012), his father Thaddeus Kubarek (1945), and his stepfather Frank Barski (1966).

 After returning from Vietnam, he was uninterested in venturing far from home.  He enjoyed being around his family and was an avid bowler.  Teddy was the long-time proprietor of his namesake tavern.  Teddy’s Tavern was more than a business to him, but rather a place for connection to the community.  Stepping through the door of Teddy’s was akin to walking into his living room.  He cherished every interaction with patrons and friends, expressed in his big, wide smile and twinkle in his eyes.

 Teddy is survived by his children: Amy Bigham (Kirk) of Auburn and Tera Feldman (Robert) of Needham, MA; a brother Daniel Barski (Barbara); three grandchildren: Mia Bigham, Emma Bigham, and Brooke Feldman; and twenty nieces and nephews. 

 A Mass of Christian burial will be offered on Tuesday Nov. 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Hyacinth Church 63 Pulaski St. with a calling hour commencing at 10:00 a.m. till 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Fleming with military honors will be accorded.
