Sorry to hear about your death, I was just thinking about you, all the good times we had when we were younger, the things we had and the adventures we had. Too bad we didn't keep in touch we were best friends when we were in our teens & 20's. I did a search for you when I found this. RIP old friend.

To the entire Spurling Family,

I apologize for not being able to attend Mel's funeral as I wish I was able to, as I know my mother would have wanted to be there as well. Words cannot express how saddened we are by Mel's passing. Mel touched the lives of so many, including ours. He was always dedicated and devoted to serving and helping veteran's in any way possible but that hospitality and kindness wasn't just reserved for them. Mel loved children and would do what he could to put a smile on any little one's face. I remember every time he would see my little boy he would make sure he gave him a cup and a quarter so he could get M&M's and watch his face light up. Mel was a giver and a heart of gold. I am so sorry of his passing. The stars will shine a little dimmer now.
